Google glass is a head mounted tiny computerized device with a camera, initially displayed by Google in 2011. It has gone through various stages of improvement and revisions in hardware and software spectrum. It is not accessible outside the United States, restricting its availability through Google website only. It is not available for sale in the retail market. The development of Google Glass is a slow process and criticized for its usefulness. The doctors, explorers, and police department are analyzing the device in a way that can assist their job in the most effective manner. The major aspect is that Google Glass inquires from its customers to stay in the practical world and do not be “Glass-out”.
Google Glass is one of the latest technologies that can assist professionals in various fields. The Dubai Police Department plans to use it on trial basis before final launching. According to the statement by Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security of Dubai, the latest technology is encouraged to be applied to make the process efficient and safe.
The Gulf News claims that the Google Glass can assist Dubai police officers to issues traffic fines, check numbers of license plates. It is going to be linked with the central terminal to be able to track down all the information police officers need in order to do their everyday tasks. There is a possibility that this will increase speed and efficiency of the functions. They are pushing the police department forward and referring them as “smart police officers”.
Feasibility for Dubai Police
Dubai Police Department is planning to use Google Glass as a testing tool to assist the cops to swipe the traffic violators. According to Gulf News, Dubai Police plans to use Google Glass to grab the picture identity of the illegal vehicles and the traffic rule violators. The Times of India reports that the police department plans to use two specific apps with Google Glass. Initially, the app will assist cops to take images of the traffic violators and investigate them with the law enforcement system. Later, it will assist the policemen by recording the car license plate number to identify the illegal custody of cars or wanted criminals.
The Dubai Police plans to test the new apps with the few methodologies of Google Glass at the initial stage. The feasibility of the device is analyzed on trial basis and if it is found suitable, more devices can be ordered.
According to an official of the emirate’s police, the traffic police is testing the wearable devices, adding that the department has already working with functional two customized applications: one to capture and upload images of traffic violators, and another to identify wanted licensed plates.
The Dubai Police believes in updating its database with the latest technology that can facilitate its operations effectively.
